Things to Look when Looking for Automotive Services

A lot of us depend on a mechanic to tell us what is happening with our car, however, how do you know you are getting a good repair job at a very reasonable price? Here are some tips you must look for when you need automotive services.

If you take your car in for repair, you must see certifications hanging on the wall. You want to take your car to a garage which participates in certification courses on a frequent basis and keeps up on new cars.

In particular, ensure your mechanics is up to date with his ASE or Automotive Service Excellence Certification. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence is the gold standard amongst auto manufacturers and mechanics. To get the certification, mechanics should have a high score in one subject area and two years of professional experience. A service center that has an ASE Blue seal signifies which 75% of workers working at that establishment are certified by ASE. When a car shop is missing an ASE sticker, don't get your auto serviced there.

Quality Auto Parts and Services

Another indication of good and reliable car service is the use of high-quality parts. It could be tempting to save a couple of dollars on off-brand components once your repair costs start adding up, on the other hand, a superior repair shop will tell you that you are not really saving anything. High-quality parts will last longer, meaning you will not need to replace them most often. Safety can also be an issue with used or inferior car parts. You do not want to put yourself or your loved ones in jeopardy over a couple of dollars of saving.

If you find a good car or automotive services, you'll save money. All shops must give these routine maintenance services:

Oil change

Brake repair

Tire alignment

What is more to offer the typical array of services, proper mechanics will provide you a good and fair price. They will not charge you for the small things like topping off your fluids or checking the pressure in your tires, and they are more fascinated in keeping your auto working than charging for air.

Car shops which have good automotive services look out for their clients. They know that businesses are based on establishing trusting relationships. They also take the time to check for primary safety hazards while your auto is in the shop, alert you to essential maintenance items which are overdue, and try to teach you on the car you drive.

Great Customer Service

A good shop also put customer convenience on top of their mind. They know it is hard for you to work without your car. They do the whole thing to complete the job and get you on your way fast. When you need to wait for your auto to be serviced, they make the waiting area at ease and comfortable with complimentary coffee as well as snacks, TV, as well as Wi-Fi.

Good automotive services are available out there when you know what to look for. State-of-the-art training, quality parts, as well as attention to client service, are a few of things that set these places apart.

How to Jumpstart Vehicle?

If is annoying if you are running late for a conference or meeting and when you switch on your car ignition, you experience the dismay of your vehicle refusing to start. This case gets more annoying if you don't even know how to jumpstart vehicle. For car owners, you must be ready for any quandary which involves your vehicle, from how you can escape once your accidentally drive off a bridge into the ice-cold water, what to do if the engine bursts into flames and indeed how to jumpstart your auto if the battery dies.

First and foremost, how precisely do you know if the battery of your car is empty? It is relatively easy, the battery is dead once you switch on the ignition and you only hear audible clicks coming from the engine, or when you don't hear anything at all. Once you switch the key and your car's engine turns over, most likely it is more a more complicated mechanical issue that you can't do anything about.

If you find out that your car's battery is drained, then he is the things you must do:

Jump Start a Car with Cables Guide

Remove the jumper wires and pop open the hood of both vehicles. Every responsible car owners must always have jumper cables carry inside the car. If you don't have one, then this is the best time for you to buy some.

Connect the end of the positive red wire to the positive terminals of the working battery and the other end of a dead battery. Next, connect one end of the black negative wire on the negative terminal of the working car, and link the other end of the unpainted metal part of the car with nonworking battery, this will avoid sparks from flying and perhaps singeing arm hairs off.

Start the auto with the good battery for two to three minutes; this will make enough charge in the other battery so it can start on its own. Take the wires off in undo order. Leave the stalled auto idling for 30 minutes to ensure that the battery gets enough amount of charge prior to going on your way.

Jump Start a Car by Push Starting Guide

If you own a manual transmission car, then you could get it started even without wires or cables. Here is how to do it:

Put your car in 1st gear, switch on the ignition then step on the clutch all the way. When your car is parked facing downwards on a hill, you are lucky. All you need is to release the brake allows your auto to roll down the hill to pick up some speed.

Next release the clutch right away. This will cause the engine to turn over and start. In case, it fails to start, simply press and release the clutch once more. If you're not on a hill, you must ask for help from friends to push your car.

Keep this guide in your mind, and you worry no more about how to jumpstart vehicle ever again.

Tips to Keep You Safe from Driving

There are lots of car safety tips that you have to follow, however, written below are some of the most famous lane rules you have to adhere to so as to keep safe.

Avoid Drunk Driving

Out of every 100 road mishaps, thirty to forty of them were caused due to some impairment caused by driving under the influence of alcohol. Low blood alcohol levels or heavy intoxication causes enough damage to your nervous system to cause a crash. So, if you are ever drunk, either call for a cab or request a drop from a sober friend.

Don't Speed

You should have seen blokes speed up on their vehicles and superbikes, speeding past you like a wind. It may look cool, but it probably can be the cause of an awful road crash.

Get Rid of Distractions

Calling, messaging, talking and even listening to music, all these could lead to madness. You need to keep away from this distraction while driving. It poses a serious threat to your passengers' lives and your life as well.

Avoid Drowsy Driving

If you are feeling sleepy or dozing off, don't drive under any circumstance. Research shows that the main reason for road accidents is because of drowsy driving. People who are sleepy do not precisely pay attention to the road and so end up causing a crash.

Don't Forget to Wear Seat Belts

One of the main reasons for the safety of the passengers has been a seat belt. This car accessory saves millions of lives annually. Not just does it help you stay in your seat in the event of a crash but it also provides the additional safety of not being thrown around in the event of sudden braking.

Practice a Safe Distance

Do not get very close to the bike or car moving in front of you. Practice a safe distance of at least six seconds to catch up. This minimizes the risk of slamming the one behind in the event of a sudden braking require.

Defensive Driving

There's a saying the reads; you're the car, and the car is you. It only means that you must be capable of anticipating when your car will be capable of making a turn safely or not, in advance.

Car Maintenance

Keep your car safely. You have to ensure to change damaged or ruined parts like wheels as early as possible. More importantly car parts like the brake system. Maintenance of cars increases longevity at the same time reducing mechanical or technical failures while driving on the road.

While you are on the road, you can bear in mind all of the stuff stated above and keep safe; on the other hand, ultimately the only thing which will matter is the presence of your mind. A driver with a good presence of mind always keeps safe on the road in spite of whatever may come. You need to focus on your driving if you want to keep away from any type of accident.

Work From Home: 6 Companies That Hire Remote Workers

Work From Home: 6 Companies That Hire Remote Workers

Brough you by

by Steve Gillman

Contributor for The Penny Hoarder

If working from home is your dream, you’ve probably seen your share of job postings and business opportunities that promise way more than they deliver.

On The Penny Hoarder, we try to highlight more viable home-based jobs and businesses, like being a search engine evaluator and making money on YouTube. But “business” implies unpredictability, and many online “jobs” are part-time. That’s great for some readers, but others may want a more predictable and consistent paycheck. That’s why I went hunting for legitimate, full-time work-from-home jobs — and some of them even offer benefits.

Can You Really Work From Home Full Time?

Large corporations often contract smaller companies to provide phone and online customer service, and these smaller companies specifically hire home workers. Typically you’ll spend the day on the phone in front of your computer, usually answering calls or responding to questions online.

For example, a friend worked as a home-based online support specialist for AFNI, Inc. (which only rarely has at-home workers), and some of their clients were appliance makers and sellers. Among his many tasks, my friend spent his time helping customers with things like ordering parts and finding a service technician, both on the phone and online through a live chat service.

Think back to all the times you’ve called a company for help or typed questions into an online help box. The people you dealt with could have been working at home, which gives you some idea of the kind of work you might be doing.

How Much Could You Get Paid?

While these positions generally don’t pay high wages, many do provide a regular paycheck and health insurance, along with other benefits. For example, Convergys work-at-home jobs come with “a full benefit package with medical, dental and vision coverage.” They have a 401(k) plan, and they reimburse employees for college tuition. (Click to tweet this opportunity!)

As a Convergys “anywhere agent,” you take customer calls and provide other services for large corporations. Although they don’t like to name the corporations they work for, they say they have clients in these industries:

Cable & satellite

Financial services

Travel & hospitality

Other Work-From-Home Jobs

Since you’d work for a company that contracts services to a variety of clients, the work you do could change as clients fluctuate. You might spend months explaining to customers how to set up smart TVs, and then become a complaint handler when your employer gets a new client. You could even end up as a debt collector. If you want a particular type of work, ask about what you’ll be doing before accepting the job.

Here are some of the companies that offer at-home customer service jobs:

As I write this post, this company is hiring work-from-home agents in 40 states and Canada. Be ready for the interview, which is done by phone in front of your computer and takes two hours.

Pay: shows salaries ranging from $9.42 to $9.67 per hour. For their U.S. employees, Sykes says, “We offer limited medical, dental and vision healthcare plans to all of our employees.” They also have a 401(k) and offer the option of paid days off or cash rewards.

West at Home

This is a division of West Corporation, which employs “thousands of home-based agents located across the country.”

Pay: An employee posting on mentions, “paid training, fun projects to work on, easy job,” but others point out a lack of benefits and starting at minimum wage (which depends on your state). The company says their benefits include “flexibility, no commute, and no dress code.” They note that “You have the option to take advantage of medical and dental related benefits from an outside provider.”

This company contracts more than 40,000 employees who speak 51 different languages. Many are at call centers, but TeleTech also hires home workers. Look for the listings with “@Home” under “Location.”

Pay: shows wages varying by position, with a range from $8.50 to $10.50 per hour. lists paid holidays, health and dental plans and a 401(k) as some of their benefits.

VIPdesk Connect

Like many of these companies, they “provide outsourced customer service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

Pay: shows a range of salaries from $9.16 to $15.33 per hour, and the company says they provide paid vacation days, holidays and (for full-time workers) medical, dental and vision insurance.

You’ll find this interesting statement on the iQor website: “No interview necessary to join our team of highly-paid career agents.” Instead, according to BusinessWeek, they have a screening process that includes an aptitude test.

While they primarily operate call centers (31 of them around the globe) they do hire people who work at home. For example, The Gazette reported in 2011 that they hired 100 work-at-home agents in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It isn’t clear what benefits are offered to employees in other locations, but the Gazette article notes that in this case “benefits will not be available to work-at-home personnel.”

Pay: Some of their call center jobs pay more than $100,000 annually, according to a BusinessWeek article. It’s safe to assume they’re management positions, but the company does have a policy of promoting from within. says the average wage is $11.43 per hour, which is still better than many of these customer service jobs.

The Upsides and Downsides of Working at Home

Research shows that home workers are happier and more productive. As Jeri Hector, a home-based online support specialist, explains:

“…there is no background noise in my apartment. This means that it is much easier to help my customers and lowers my irritation factor greatly.”

Ah, but then there’s the catch: Home workers are less likely to be promoted — and they get smaller raises! Researchers suggest that this is due to a lack of “passive face time.” Apparently you have to be seen to be appreciated, so, if it’s possible, you might want to get out of the house and show up at the office once in a while.

Your Turn: Would you consider working from home for one of these companies?

Want To Get Better Gas Mileage?

Want To Get Better Gas Mileage?

Written & Brought you by

by Jamie Cattanach

How many miles do you get per gallon?

Probably not what Google says when you search your vehicle’s make and model.

Your fuel efficiency might suffer from your driving habits, especially if you speed, frequently brake or overload your car with heavy cargo.

If you optimize your driving habits, you could push your fuel efficiency way up — and save money.

Hypermiling and Ecomodding

Most of us know about fuel efficiency tricks like drafting behind big trucks, avoiding excess speeding and maintaining a constant velocity.

But there’s a whole community of so-called “hypermilers” and “eco-modders,” who take optimizing their vehicles and driving habits for the best fuel efficiency to the next level.

There are two types of optimization, explains Darin Cosgrove — or “MetroMPG,” as he’s known on Ecomodder, the online community he co-founded.

“Hypermiling is about strictly using driving techniques to save fuel,” Cosgrove says, while “ecomodding means making changes to the vehicle itself to improve its efficiency, regardless of driving style.”

Pretty cool ideas, right? We think so, too — but some folks really go to extremes.

Competitive hypermiler Wayne Gerdes was featured in a recent Mother Jones article. He achieved 59 mpg in his Honda Accord — a vehicle normally rated for a mere 27 mpg city or 37 mpg highway.

Some of his methods included lightening his car’s load — even removing his keys and wallet. He also makes extreme turns at high speeds to avoid braking.

Budget traveler Jema Patterson of Half the Clothes took advantage of gravity by driving 160 miles from Crater Lake to Eugene, Oregon — with her manual-transmission car off and in neutral.

She took this dangerous measure to save fuel while she was a poor college student… but even if you’re totally broke, we don’t recommend it!

Smooth wheel covers can increase aerodynamics, improving gas efficiency by up to 4.6% per one modder’s measure. So, this guy installed pizza pans over his Prius’ hubcaps.

Saving Gas by Getting Conscious

Even if you’re not ready to get out your riveter or give up braking, take some tips from hypermilers and ecomodders to save money on gas.

Cosgrove makes the following recommendations to those looking to get serious about saving at the pump:

“First, you need feedback,” he says, “because you can’t manage what you don’t measure.”

Cosgrove says to make a record of each time you fill to see frequency changes as your fuel efficiency goes up.

Make sure you have an mpg gauge installed — aftermarket options are available if your car doesn’t have one.

“Some people call these a ‘game gauge’ because they let you turn your regular commutes into challenges,” Cosgrove explains. Try to beat last trip’s high score!

Another important rule: Don’t idle!

“If you’re going to be stopped for more than 10-15 seconds and it’s safe to do so, shut off the engine,” Cosgrove says.

Similarly, start to pay attention to your braking.

“Only fools rush in,” Cosgrove remarks. “Every time you hit the brakes, you’ve made a mistake: You’ve converted gasoline into brake dust. People waste more fuel with the brake pedal than the gas pedal in city driving. When you see a stop ahead, lift off the gas sooner and coast in.”

In fact, taking it slow is a good idea all around — slowing down on the highway will have the biggest impact on your fuel consumption.

“Generally, cars are most fuel efficient just after top gear has engaged, usually in the 40-50 mph range,” Cosgrove says.

So if you want to save some pennies, leave a little earlier and stay firmly in the right hand lane. Just make sure to obey the minimum speed requirements in your area!

Get Going — But Slowly!

The Ecomodder community features over 100 hypermiling techniques and a plethora of vehicle modifications. Check them out and see what you can implement into your driving habits.

Don’t forget: Routine car maintenance (regular oil changes and tire rotations) can take your investment much further in both machinery and miles per gallon.

Your Turn: Will you apply any of these hypermiling or ecomodding tips to your own vehicle and driving habits?

Powerful 2-Step Process To Eliminate Credit Card Debt

Brought you & Written by,000InCreditCardDebt&ccontent=Powerful2StepMethod2

by Jarret DiToro

What's the best way to pay down a credit card balance as quickly as possible, while paying the least in interest, and without hurting your credit? What follows is a powerful method recommended by the most astute personal finance experts* to achieve exactly those objectives. It's extremely effective, completely legal, and leverages programs created by credit card issuers to your advantage. Follow these steps and start to become credit card debt-free.

Step 1: Use A Powerful Tool To Immediately Stop Paying Interest On Your Balance

Think of someone carrying a credit card balance like a patient who enters an emergency room bleeding badly. The first thing a doctor will do is stop the bleeding. It's no different when attacking a credit card balance; the first thing you do is stop the interest charges.

There's a simple way to do this, and it's brilliance is that it actually uses the banks' marketing offers to your advantage: find a card offering a long "0% intro APR balance transfer" promotional offer, and transfer your balance to it. These are cards which offer new customers a long period of time (often as much as 18 months) during which the card charges no interest on all balances transferred to it. We constantly track all the cards in the marketplace in order to find the ones currently offering the longest 0% intro periods.

If you need more motivation, just think of this: on a $10,000 balance, $150 of a $200 monthly payment would get vacuumed up by interest charges.** That leaves only $50 of your $200 that actually reduces your balance, the rest vanishing into bank pockets. That's just brutal. Use our reviews to find a card which offers the longest possible no-interest period while charging low, or even no fees. Moving your balances to the card you choose will stop the bleeding, allowing you to move on to step two.

Step 2: Power Through Your Balance During The 0% Period.

Once you've transferred your balances and put a stop to the interest charges, it's time to capitalize on the interest-free period to really break free of the debt. The best part of this is how simple it is: just keep making the payments you used to make when you had to pay big interest payments. Going back to the $10,000 example above, if you transferred that balance onto a card like the Chase Slate (which offers 15 months of 0% intro APR with no transfer fee) and maintained the same $200 monthly payment, you can see how much faster you'll be reducing your balance in the chart below.

As you can see, without using the 0% card, the same $200 monthly payments barely make any headway. It's like swimming upstream, or walking while taking a step back for every two steps forward. That's no way to swim or walk, and attempting to pay off your cards while paying high card interest rates is no way to manage your finances. Move your balances onto one of the cards below, stop getting crushed by interest, and start making real progress toward getting rid of your card debt.

Top 0% Intro APR Balance Transfer Cards:

The No Transfer-Fee Card

Chase Slate®

15 Months of 0% Intro APR. No balance transfer fee. No annual fee.

The Chase Slate is tied as our highest-rated balance transfer card, and for good reason. It charges no fee for transferring your balance to it in the first two months, no annual fee, and no interest on balances transferred for a full 15-month 0% intro APR period. This makes it a phenomenal tool to gain control of your credit card debt, as you can make a costless balance transfer, then use the 15-month interest grace period to pay down your balance.

The Verdict: If you don't need the entire 18 months offered by the BankAmericard, this can be efficient since it doesn't have a balance transfer fee. No transfer fee and no annual fee, combined with the 0% intro APR means that this is really free money for the 15 month term, no catches.

Most Appropriate For: Those who want a no-fee way to stop paying interest, and possibly pay off the cards during that breather. Those with good rather than excellent credit.

Least Appropriate For: Those who pay off their balances every month would be better served getting a card paying high rewards.

Recommended credit: Just Good. The Chase card has the most lenient credit requirements of our top balance transfer cards.

The Ultra-Long 0% Intro APR Card

BankAmericard® Credit Card

18 billing cycles (months) of 0% Intro APR on balance transfers. No annual fees.

The BankAmericard is tied as our highest rated balance transfer card, featuring an unbelievable 18-month 0% APR intro period. This means that if you were to roll your balance over onto the card today, you wouldn't have to pay interest until well into 2017. The card does charge a 3% balance transfer fee*, but if you’re looking to avoid paying any interest on your credit card balances for as long as possible, the BankAmericard could be your card.

The Verdict: Getting a loan this cheaply for this long is pretty amazing. If you're carrying a balance, and realistically you know you will have to carry that balance for a while, this card becomes a no-brainer. As an example, assume you have a $10,000 balance on your current cards at a 18% rate. Over the 18 month term, you would have paid $3,098 in interest.* Switching to this card would cost $300 in fees, but then nothing the rest of the way, for a net savings of $2,798. Not bad, you could do a lot with that extra cash.

Most Appropriate For: Those who have large balances and and want as much interest-free time as possible to pay the principle down.

Least Appropriate For: Those who pay off their balances every month or every few months.

Credit Required: Excellent

The Cards With Long 0% Intro APR AND Cash Rewards Programs.

Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Card

Pros: Capital One's Quicksilver card makes things simple: you earn 1.5% cash back on all your purchases, with no limit and no category restrictions or games. We included the card in our balance transfer list because it offers 0% intro APR until September 2016 on all balances transferred.

Cons: Does charge a 3% balance transfer fee. Requires good credit to get in.

The Verdict: If you're looking to transfer a balance and make some purchases, you can use this card to avoid paying interest during the intro period AND earn cash rewards.

Chase Freedom® Card

15 Months of 0% Intro APR, 1% Cash Back Rewards Program, $150 bonus. No annual fee.

Pros: Chase is temporarily offering a fantastic deal on this card. If you charge $500 on it in the first 3 months, you'll earn a $150 bonus. Combine that with the 1% standard cash back feature, plus 5% cash back in certain rotating spending categories per quarter (at the time of this writing it includes restaurants) and this card really starts to pay. All this and you get 15 months of 0% intro APR, and it requires good, not excellent credit, making it easier to get in.

Cons: Charges a 3% balance transfer fee.

The Verdict: A great combination of 0% intro APR, solid cash-back rewards, an attractive limited-time bonus offer while only requiring good credit.

Most Appropriate For: Those with good credit seeking a daily-use card offering great cash back rewards and 0% intro APR. Best for new charges.

Least Appropriate For: Balance transfers, as it charges the 3% fee while offering no more free term than the Slate (which has no transfer fee).

Credit Required: Good
